Team Pwersa brings honor to NU-APC during the Asia-Pacific Submission International Open conducted last October 7, 2018 in the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia. Bringing home the bacon, the White Belt Openweight champions were:
Marco Butalid: 60kg division – Gold; Openweight division – Bronze
Aaron Dagatan: 60kg division – Silver; Openweight division – Gold
Felix Gregorio: 67kg division – Gold; Openweight division – Silver
In an interview with Marco Butalid, one of the competitors who fought in the light-featherweight (Pluma) division, he openly shared his secrets to achieving success. He disclosed that personal sacrifices had to be made. “In order to win the competition, I needed to spend more time in working out; I pushed myself to balance both academics and training, but I was able to manage for as long as I had the mentality to carry out what I had wanted to do,” Marco explained. For him, having less time for friends during the training period and the sacrifice of eating less carbohydrates and sweets were all worth it. “If you want to go for something, you should stop thinking about it and just go get it,” he added. Consistency and discipline were essential keys to his ascendancy.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the most prominent martial arts because of its effectual combat styles in real-life situations, as well as in full-contact combat sports. In comparison to grappling-based martial arts, BJJ is distinctive because of its focus on submissions. As one of the most advantageous combat strategies when it comes to ending a fight, “submissions” enable a competitor to quickly defeat his opponent without the use of much force. In this event, members of Pwersa APC MMA were able to showcase their mastery over the art of submissions.
